As information theory celebrates its 50th birthday in 1998, it seems timely for us to seek an emblem that symbolizes the IEEE Information Theory Society. Thus, we are pleased to announce a logo contest for the IEEE Information Theory Society. The winning logo design will be announced at the 1998 International Symposium on Information Theory to be held August 16-21 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA. In the next announcement of the contest, we will also announce the prize for the winning design.
The deadline for receipt of submissions is January 15, 1998. The submissions will be presented in the March issue of the newsletter and also posted on the Information Theory Society's homepage (/index.html). The winning logo design will be determined by the membership through mail-in ballots as well as web-based balloting.
All submissions should be sent to the address below. As the entries will be both printed and electronically posted, camera ready quality is necessary for hard-copy submissions. Electronic submission is encouraged. Electronic submissions can be in the form of postscript, gif or jpg files. The submitted logo designs should be sized to maximally fit within a two inch square. All designers should also include complete contact information, including address, phone number, fax number and e-mail address. Contact information should not be included in the logo file.
Everyone is encouraged to participate and we look forward to seeing how the abundant creativity of our members is unleashed for this artistic endeavor!
If you have any questions about the contest or format of the logo submissions, do not hesitate to contact me at the address below.
